Derek Barr, Hardy’s director of customer service and sales, marketing and human resources, presented a $250 check on April 5 to Relay for Life representative Rose Mullins at Hardy’s Moorefield office. The monetary amount denotes a Signature Level sponsorship of the event for 2019.

This year’s Relay for Life of the Potomac Valley event is scheduled for August 17 at the Moorefield Town Park. The day includes activities designed to promote cancer awareness and prevention, with teams taking turns walking together around a track. The night is highlighted by the cancer survivors’ and caregivers’ walk and the luminaria ceremony, when candles are lit inside personalized bags to honor and support those who have fought or are fighting the disease. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Derek said Hardy Telecommunications recognizes the impact that cancer has had on so many people.

“Relay for Life is a tribute to those who have battled cancer, both those who have survived and those who are no longer with us. But it also signifies our collective determination to keep fighting this disease, and we’re happy to sponsor this important event,” he said.

Mike Alkire, senior community development manager for the American Cancer Society, said the money raised will help the ACS support education and prevention efforts, fund cancer research, and offer free information and services for people with cancer.

“The Relay for Life movement presents a great opportunity to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all,” he wrote.
