Derek Barr, Hardy director of customer service and sales, marketing and human resources, delivered $100 checks to Emily Sherman from MIS and Adam Leatherman from MMS. The two teachers accepted the donations on behalf of their respective schools. Mrs. Sherman teaches 4th grade at Moorefield Intermediate, while Mr. Leatherman teaches chorus at Moorefield Middle.

Derek said the donations were prompted by a request from Donna Bodkins, vice principal for both MIS and MMS. She had sent a list of suggested items that would benefit the schools, and she also invited businesses to assist teachers by donating supplies or contributing money.

“It is unbelievable the amount of money that many teachers spend on their students, and most of the time it is their own personal money, to buy the little extra items,” she wrote.

Derek said he requested to give the checks to Mrs. Sherman and Mr. Leatherman because he was familiar with their dedication to their students and profession.

“I believe Mrs. Sherman and Mr. Leatherman exemplify the talented teachers who put children first at Moorefield intermediate and middle schools,” Derek said. “Mrs. Sherman teaches various subjects including science and math, but she also is incredibly talented at the arts, and she shares those gifts with the community. Mr. Leatherman splits his time at three different schools. Besides teaching chorus at MMS, he teaches music appreciation and chorus at Moorefield High and dance at Moorefield Elementary. Our school system is fortunate to have teachers like them, and Hardy Telecommunications is proud to support them.”
